You're not perfect? Neither am I but repeated errors reflect badly on your business. An occasional error will happen from time to time, especially if you are running your business alone without a secondary check. In the corporate world it is simply not acceptable. There are layers of reviews occurring for every piece of marketing collateral created.
For those of you quite comfortable with the written word, most errors are simply driven by the almighty typo. For others, they simply think far faster than they can type. Either way, spelling and missing words still reflect badly on your brand. Errors showcase a business that is not focused on the details. These types of mistakes can actually be hard to detect because the mind will tend to see what it believes is there, skipping over a missing word, comma or hyphen. No easy way to say it but you have to slow down and read aloud. I catch 99% of errors with this method, which is certainly awkward in a public setting!
For others, the written word is not second nature. Maybe the arts were your passion or maybe you're an accountant and numbers fuel your engine, maybe English is a second language. Either way, investing in a grammar app on your phone would be advisable. The downside? You have one extra step to tackle before you post but that is just fine. Your other talents will reflect your professionalism and you will not lose an opportunity because your grammar or spelling weren't up to speed.
The lesson in all of this? You're not perfect and neither am I. There will be opportunities lost if you don't thwart the literacy dragon. The most beautiful photo and heartfelt message will fall flat with blatant mistakes but we can develop methods to craft amazing posts. Before you hit share or post take a second and make sure it meets your standards. It might be the difference between a job won or lost.
