Designing with the apps to create amazing photos certainly is important but the message is equally critical. The font we choose is so much more than just text! It incorporates graphic design in terms of scale, color, and creativity. You have to stand out from the barrage of media your audience scrolls through in their feed.
For the main title or message in your post, choose colors and styles that reflect the vibe you are trying to express. From formal to fun, most apps have a variety of choices as well as a full range of colors. The entire piece does not have to be in that font but it should be the star of your post or tweet. Apps all have different styles available but there are also star-worthy fonts downloadable through a variety of websites.
Links and basic details in a simpler font will not only bring attention to your title but make the critical details easier to read, no matter how small a person's phone may be. Face it, if you design on a huge screen and your design is awesome, it is useless if it is illegible when viewed on a mobile device. Arial and sans fonts are excellent choices for details and links.
A few basic rules to keep in mind when playing with the fonts:
- Make the unique font you've chosen your star.
- Basic details should be in an appropriate size and simple font so details are legible on any platform.
- Choose less than three fonts to maintain focus on the message, preferably two in most cases.
